Introduction:

Trust for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (TRP) is a national NGO (Non Government Organization) established in 1979 by Dr. Valerie Ann Taylor in response to the desperate need for services for people with Spinal Cord Injuries and CRP is its core project. CRP has evolved into an internationally respected organization, recognized both for its Health Services in Rehabilitation and for mainstreaming of disability and inclusion of PWDs into society. CRP focuses on a holistic approach to community based rehabilitation, recognizing that all aspects of the rehabilitation process are vital for its success. CRP is committed to the creation of an accessible and enabling environment for persons with disabilities in Bangladesh focusing on a “Rights Based” approach to the treatment, training and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities which is consistent with national and international charters and agreements. In this regard CRP commenced its service to the poor, marginalized and disabled people of Bangladesh from last three decades. It continues to be the only center of its kind in Bangladesh. As a non-profit, non-government organization, CRP treats and rehabilitates disabled people regardless of their economic means. This holistic approach caters for the patient’s physical, emotional, social and economic needs during and following treatment. Since the very beginning CRP has been working with the aim of establishing equal opportunities, equal participation and equal rights in which person with disabilities can live their lives with joy and dignity.

The organization is registered with NGO Affair’s Bureau of Bangladesh as Trust for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (TRP), Registration no: 206 and date: 12-03-1986.

Vocational training facilities for Person with Disabilities (PWDs):

The CRP Madhab Memorial Vocational Training Institute was established in 1999. The training courses were approved by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) from 2003. The target groups of students are physically challenged people. Different courses are running in five locations: CRP- Savar, CRP- Ganakbari and at the divisional centres in Rajshahi, Barisal and Chittagong. Residential hostel facilities are available for both male and female students. After completion of the training, CRP tries to ensure their employment. Our goal is to meet the demand of the society and CRP is planning to expand its vocational training facilities in divisional centres. Additionally CRP will set up a vocational training institute in Manikganj with the support of the Bangladesh Government Social Welfare Ministry. Currently CRP-Savar is running five different technical trade courses.  Through these training courses and employment facilities CRP is reintegrating the persons with physical disabilities in the inclusive society. Thus they can lead a dignified life in their community.

BSRM is one of the most generous donors who is supporting the aim of CRP for establishing the rights of persons with disabilities through supporting the livelihood programme of CRP. Under this mentioned proposal and budget, we are going to provide vocational training on 4 trades and ensure the job placement (wage/self) for 28 PWDs. Here in below we are giving the details and budget of the proposed courses.
