CRP-Gonakbari was established in August 1995 with a land area of 6.25 acres and located 15 km from CRP Head Office at Savar. This centre started its journey with a view to assist with the reintegration of women with disabilities into mainstream society through providing training in different sectors.
It has a Women’s Rehabilitation Unit (WRU), where women with disabilities receive training in different trades including industrial sewing machine operation, dressmaking and tailoring, handicraft, embroidery and so on. In special cases, underprivileged women can also receive this training. Upon completion of the training, the industrial sewing machine trainees are employed by different garments factories.
Beside this, under BORDO International funding, twowheelchair users are receiving training in metalwork to start a new metalwork business in their community.
This centre produces metal and wooden assistive devices, mobility aids, furniture, crests and trophies, recycled papers etc. This centre also has a printing press and a nursery with mushrooms which are Income Generating Activities (IGA).
In order to step forward to an eco-friendly environment, CRP-Ganakbari is recycling the kitchen waste to make high category compost for the nursery.
CRP-Ganakbari recently launched an Occupational Therapy Day Centre for People with Mental Health Needs, where the beneficiaries can be involved in multi-dimensional tasks, which help them to return to their normal life.
