CRP Ganakbari is a centre of CRP, established in 1995 with the primary goal of rehabilitating and empowering women with disabilities. The centre was developed with the support of Caroline Scott, Hanneke Cusell, Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, Marks & Spencer, Shanta Denims Ltd., and many other distinguished partners. The facilities at Ganakbari operate across six buildings, totaling 36712 sq. ft. of space, situated on its own land. Among these, two are two-storied, and four are single-storied structures.
The centre's key activities include:
- Production of Assistive Devices: Wheelchairs, supportive seats, crutches, walking sticks, walking frames, etc.
- Vocational Training: Training in Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sewing and handicrafts for women with disabilities.
- Income-Generating Enterprises: A printing press and a nursery also contribute to the centre’s financial sustainability.
The centre handles financial transactions of approximately 8 to 10 million BDT annually, with an income-expenditure ratio of 67%.
Next Plan of Action:
Despite these challenges, CRP Ganakbari is focused on growth and development. The centre plans to:
- Expand Storage Facilities: Construct an additional 1,600 sq. ft. store for bulk items such as wood logs, angle bars, and pipes.
- Improve Wastewater Management: Implement a system to manage stagnant rainwater, which floods the centre during the monsoon season.
- Construct Family Accommodation: Build new semi-paved accommodations (four rooms with attached toilets) near the nursery area for families.
- Expand Commercial Spaces: Build five new shops for revenue generation.
- Infrastructure Expansion: Extend the administrative building to a third floor and construct an 11-story building with double basements for parking.
