33rd International & 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities

The 33rd International and 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated on 3rd December by CRP with the theme “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” In collaboration with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), CBM Global Disability Inclusion Bangladesh, Manusher Jonno Foundation and USAID, various programs were organized in Savar, Manikganj and Nawabganj to observe the day. CRP is awarded by Manikganj District Administration and District Social Services Office for its special contribution to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.

The celebrations began in the morning with a mesmerizing performance by the students of William & Marie Taylor School (WMTS). Then, the leaders from organizations run by people with disabilities joined a workshop that led to several proposals such as - accessibility to education, health, transportation, and information technology; advocacy for inclusive policies; support for entrepreneurs and ensuring their representation at all levels of government, and the private sector.

These proposals were then presented at a discussion meeting chaired by CRP’s Executive Director Dr. Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, where Savar Upazila Social Service Officer SK Shohiduzzaman and representatives of donor organizations convey their valuable speech. As part of the celebration, the guests distributed prizes among the winners of sports competitions organized at CRP Savar for staff with disabilities and patients.

In the evening, a cultural program was organized with the participation of people with disabilities at Reddaway Hall, where the band group “Prabachan” performed as volunteer.
