Marks and Start Cultural Exchange programme

On 11th March 2019, a special event was held at CRP’s head office in Savar. CRP, in collaboration with Marks and Spencer, organised an annual get-together program for persons with disabilities working in ready-made garment factories, who had previously received their vocational training at CRP. Representatives, owners, and officials from around 70 factories were present at the event.

The program opened with a welcome speech given from the dais by the country head of Marks and Spencer, Shwapna Bhowmik, who welcomed all the guests to the event. CRP’s Founder Valerie A. Taylor greeted all guests and audience to the event. Mr. Mizanur Rahman, Senior Compliance Manager, Marks and Spencer also delivered his speech. He was followed by Mr. Selim Rahman, Asst. Manager of Rehabilitation Wing of CRP who gave a brief presentation on the Marks and Start project activities. Till date CRP has trained 2260 persons with disabilities and placed them in different jobs in the ready-made garments sector of Bangladesh. Among the factory representatives, Mr. Shovon Islam, Managing Director of Crown Wears (Pvt.) Ltd shared his thoughts. The guests handed over the best employee award to the persons with disabilities working as sewing and linking operators in the garments factories to encourage their good works. Then the special guests gave out awards in several categories, including best employer and best employee. Finally, Md. Shafiq-ul Islam, Executive Director of CRP thanked all the attendees for their presence. 

After the photo session, a few persons with disabilities put on a performance for the guests.
