Leon wants to be self reliant

Leon is a young man of 22 lives in Bikrampur with his parents who are retired.Leaving school at 15, he joined a workshop as a welder to provide the family  income as the sole bread winner.  In early September, 2016 while working Leon slipped and fell, injuring his neck severely. He was immediately taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), where he was put in traction for 33 days, as he was paralysed from the neck down but there was no improvement in that time.

He went home, but after twenty days in bed a pressure sore developed on his back. Once diagnosed he was admitted to CRP, he was operated on and during two months recuperation, Leon received physiotherapy, occupational therapy and counseling services to be physically and mentally stable in his wheelchair. The therapists said although Leon is a Tetraplegic patient, he has limited hand movements but no gripping power. Although he can feed himself with a modified spoon, he is dependent on his carer for all other tasks. While at CRP, Leon received training in shop management, as he intends to open up a small shop in his village with the help of his family. Beside his old company, CRP, with the help of its donors, is helping with some of his medical expenses, as well as the rehabilitation costs.
