PATIENTS PROFILE [ CRP BANGLADESH ]

Mainul

Mainul Islam is a cheerful 15 year old boy. He came from Shitakundu, Chittagong.  In 2011 he came to CRP for the first time with a tumor on his spinal cord. CRP sent him to Mohakhali General Hospital to operate on the tumor.  He went back to his village and upon returning home, he passed his time lying in bed as he had no feeling below his waist.  He readmitted himself to CRP as he was suffering from a pressure sore. The doctors operated his pressure sore and it is now healing. His father is a poor farmer who has to feed 7 mouths with his low income. Mainul started to attend school but over time he dropped out because of his disability. Now he is on a long trolley and is receiving therapeutic services. He could not afford to buy a wheelchair, which resulted in another pressure sore as he was always lying in bed. He is planning to receive training on repairing electronic parts from CRP’s vocational training centre after finishing his treatment. After receiving training he will be able to start his own business in his village and support his family. As it is very difficult for his family to bear his expenses, CRP and its donors are helping him.
