Vocational Training Institute

Vocational Training

CRP’s Madhab Memorial Vocational Training Institute (VTI) was established in 1999 and affiliated in 2003 to the “Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB)”. Most of those suffering from spinal cord injuries and other physical difficulties such as Polio, Visual Impaired, Speech Impaired, amputees, etc. are from poorer backgrounds and work as manual laborers. Many patients at CRP are unable to return to their previous job after suffering paralysis. If a spinally injured person cannot earn a living to support his or her family, the physical and emotional rehabilitation at CRP will be of little value. To address this need CRP runs vocational training projects which aim to enable trainees to live financially independent lives.

CRP’s Madhab Memorial Vocational Training Institute (VTI) offers courses at two CRP centres in Manikganj and Ganakbari. VTI works comprehensively in assessing the needs of a potential trainee, securing a place in an appropriate course, and assisting with job placements on completion of the course.

Here training is free of cost including food, accommodation and training materials, and also supports the trainees with medical and assistive devices and equipment for self- employment. The trainees also get opportunities to take part in the National & International competitions. The main objective of VTI is to develop skill training among people with disabilities and ensure employment opportunities in different areas.

VTI received some donations from several high profile organizations. The donation was used to cover the training costs. The notable donation comes from Marks & Spencer, Swisscontact, CAF America, BSRM, ILO, The Very Group, PKSF, JULES and TESCO.

Marks & Spencer is a buyer of the UK and their Bangladeshi suppliers support the disabled people’s training costs at CRP and ensure their job/Wage-employment after completing the training through Mark and Start project since 2006. More than 1500 people are now working at 40 different garment factories all over Bangladesh. Mark & Spencer are looking forward to employing more highly skilled people, who were trained at CRP, in this challenging job in the future.

BSRM is one of the most generous donor who is supporting the aim of CRP for establishing the rights of persons with disabilities through supporting the livelihood program of CRP since 2015. We provide in kind support the financially poor trainees who start their small business in their local community after completion of training through CBR department.

Post-training follow-up is an important part of assessing the impact and continuous development of the program. This is done through home visits and by sending questionnaires.
